1st Minnesota, "History of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, 1861-1864," by R.I. Holcombe. Originally published in 1916, at Suntilwater, Minnesota. The 1st Minnesota suffered the highest loss of any Regiment at 1st Bull Run. At Gettysburg, they lost 215 of 262 men in a charge against the Confederate battle line. (or 82% causality ratio). The valiant First Minnesota also gave blood at 1st Bull Run, Savage Station, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Petersburg. They were part of Harrow's Brigade, Gibbon's Division, Hancock's Second U.S. Army Corps. Originally issued in 1916, with roster, maps, 508 pages, this reprint cost $ 30.00; if you were to locate an original 1916 copy, it may cost you around $ 595.00.
1st Minnesota, "The First Volunteers: History of the First Minnesota Volunteer Regiment, 1861-1865," by John Imholte. Released in 1963 and published in Minneapolis, 238 pages, cost $ 55.00.
1st Minnesota, "The Last Full Measure; the Life and Death of the First Minnesota Volunteers," by Richard Moe. The First Minnesota Volunteers was organized at Fort Snelling and was the first regiment offered to Lincoln after Fort Sumter, and they went on to serve in virtually every major battle fought by the Army of the Potomac, (including 1st Manassas, the Peninsular Campaign, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Petersburg, and at Appomattox CourtHouse) and played a crucial-and-tragic role at Gettysburg. Drawing on a wide array of letters, diaries, and personal reminiscences, Richard Moe tells their story through the experiences of the men who lived it. 385 pages, photos, this book was originally published in 1993 by Henry Hold and Company, New York, New York, and costs $ 30.00.

Concentrated at Paynesville May 24, 1864. Mounted and march to Fort Ridgly May 24-28. Sibley's Expedition against hostile Indians west of the Missouri River June 5-October 15, 1864. 9th minnesota regiment company H - I am looking for any photos or info of this regiment , my great g grandfather was in it, I know he was put in andersonville and escaped even though they say he did not? but Andrew Bengtson was in from 61-1865 and went to live in sibley county after the civil war was done ,,,I have some old photos of either him or my other g-great grandfather Johan Anderson and want to find out which one is which. jaohan was in yellow medicine county,mn. after the war but do not know his unit, he was born in 1840 so would have been about 24 yrs in 1864.Andrew was in carver co. before war and sibley after. SERVICE--Assigned to duty guarding line of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad from Nashville to the Kentucky line. 1st REGIMENT HEAVY Aruntilery: Organized at St. Paul and Rochester, Minn., September, 1864, to February, 1865. Companies ordered to Chattanooga, Tenn., as fast as organized and garrison duty there until September, 1865. Mustered out September 27, 1865.
