HELP TO I.D. UNMARKED CONF. SOLDIERS AT RIVERS BRIDGE,S.C.
Members of Rivers Bridge Camp 842-Sons of Confederate Veterans-are trying to name all Southern soldiers killed in the "Salkahatchie River Campaign in South Carolina" and buried in a mass grave. There were three major bridges involved in the attempt to oppose U.S. General Sherman's March into the State: Broxton's Bridge, River's Bridge and Buford's Bridge are the three major crossings involved in the fighting, February 3 & 4th, 1865. Info. on Oper's Crossroads just prior February 1st & 2nd, also has a mass grave!
We have named over ten soldiers so far and the camp has erected markers for those so named, documented and confirmed. We want to do the same for all those buried here! Please help us in our search!!!!
Any help will be noted--any accounts, muster rolls, letters or other documentation wanted!!! Below is a list of the units we know were involved, but we could be some we missed!!
