Arther, Barnabus, 2nd Sergeant. My GGGGrandfather and his son, my GGGrandfather, were members of these units. Any resources you can give or any direction would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have. My GGGGrandfather was Barnabus Arther enrolled as a 2nd Sergeant in the Confederate Army on March 25, 1861, in Centre Alabama. He was assigned to Captain Clare's company of volunteers, known as the "Cherokee Grays". The unit was later organized as Company C 7th Alabama Infantry Regiment, commanded by Col. Sterling A.M. Wood. The regiment's one year enlistment expired shortly before the Battle of Shiloh and many of its officers and enlisted men joined other units. Since the Confederacy needed food and fiber nearly as much as it did soldiers, Barnubus returned home in the early spring of 1862 to "lay in a crop". Once the crops were harvested, he prepared to re-enlist in the Army. It was then that 18 year old William Houston Arther, the eldest son, began vigorously begging his parents to permit him to join the Army with his father. They enlisted on November 15, 1862 in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 7th Alabama Calvary. On June 27, 1863, Barnabus Arther was killed in action near Shelbyville, Tennessee. After the battle, William Houston Arther found his body, fashioned a coffin with railing from a fence that was destroyed during the battle, and buried his father on the battlefield near Duck Creek. I know that is alot of info, but I am looking for regimental history on these units. Can you please help. I am a new researcher and I am not sure where to go. Thanks for your help. mhancock@myriad.net

Stephens, William McGowan - My gggfather, William M. Stephens, was in
the 51st Alabama Cavalry - Partisan Rangers (a part of Morgan's Boys). He enlisted
in May of 1862 and the brigade was captured in 1963 and spent the rest of the
war at Fort Delaware. Need info. about the date and place of his birth. Who
his parents were. He was from either Calhoun or Taladega County, AL, but I believe
he may have been from Kentucky. When NASA performed a security background search
on my father, they said he was in the family line of Alexander H. Stephens.
William was about 22 when the war started. Please help. Jane Stephens Rhem,
