Subject: I am putting together a history of the 10th Georgia Infantry Battalion and searching for any information such as diaries, letters, etc. The companies of the battalion were raised in the counties of Macon, Bibb, Sumter and Worth. Parrott, John Nicholas Wilson - My Great Grandfather served in the 17th Georgia Infantry. I need to know all the battles this outfit fought in. They were in Bennings Brigade. Did they stack arms at Appomattox? My great grandfather was wounded twice and it is believed that at least one of the wounds were received at Gettysburg. Arnold, Alexander, 2nd Sergeant - My great great grandfather, Alexander Arnold, was a 2nd Sergent in the "Bartow Invencibles". This unit was made up of Walker, Cobb and Gordon County volunteers. Do you have more information? I am interested in the battles and unit members names. I believe I have more relatives that were part of the unit, although I am unsure. Shelton, William E. F. - William E. F. Shelton was born in Augusta, GA. Moved with his father, Willaim B. Shelton, to Mt. Yonah (Cleveland) GA. around 1840. Willaim E. F. enlisted in 1861 with Co. Cown, Henry, 2nd Sergeant. Seeking information concerning the battle on March 25, 1865 during which the Thomas Georgia Brigade (14th, 35th, 45th and 49th Regiments) engaged Federal troops at Fort Fisher, (Petersburg, Virginia). Hancock, John A. - Looking for information on John A. Hancock who died in 1864 in Atlanta from war related wound or disease. He fought in the 44th Infantry Company F. The 44th was in "Stovall's Brigade" and "Barton's Brigade" at different times of the war. Fought in the Battle of Jackson and the Defense of Atlanta. Would like more information. Finfirst2@aol.com

Smith, James Bryant - I am hoping that you can help me locate information on this regiment. I have found the regiment listed with these companies: A (Campbell County and Coweta County) B (Carroll County) C (Carroll County) E (Hall County) F (Cobb County) G (Fulton County) H (Carroll County) I (Carroll County and Coweta County) K (Heard County). I am particularly interested in the Carroll County companies. I have a copy of my great-great-grandfather's parole in Atlanta on May 7, 1865. He was listed as Private of the 56 Regiment of Ga Vols. His name was James Bryant Smith. He was born and died in Carroll County. I cannot find any information on this regiment other than that shown above. I feel certain given the place of his birth and death that he served in one of the companies out of Carroll County. Coleman, William Allen - I am particularly interested in the history of the 1st Georgia Cavalry since my g-ggrandfather, William Allen Coleman, of Carrollton, Georgia served with this unit. I have found very little written about it and have yet to find any muster roll for it. Am also curious to know if it existed under another unit designation prior to its organization in 1862 since my gggfather enlisted in the latter part of 1861. Thanks, E. Hilliard, Thomas, General Cox, James - I'm looking for any information on a couple of my ancestors (grandfathers) General Thomas Hilliard cammanded the State Militia and Jim Cox joined Co. I, 4th (Clinch's) Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Calvary, he was serving in this Company on May 23, 1865. This Company was organized at Homerville, Ga., January 1, 1863. It was attached to the 4th Regiment Georgia Calvary under the command of Col. Duncan L. Clinch, Jr., of Camden County, Co. He also engaged in the battles aroung Atlanta and in the Battle of Olustee, Fla, originally Co. K, 3rd Battalion Georgia Calvary, I think.
