PENNSYLVANIA INFANTRY REGIMENTS
Ancestors
Varner, Henry, Pvt. - Greetings, I haven't checked out the entire site yet, but thank you so much for having it here. I'm trying desperately to find information on a couple of ancestors of mine that I just happened to come across and they're the biggest leads I have yet going into my lineage. Pvt.Henry Varner was enrolled on August 7, 1861 according to my paperwork on him and he served with Company E of the 13th presumably until he was wounded at "South Mountain"..which may likely have been a location of the Battle of Fredricksburg Dec.13,1862..The paperwork shows him as having been discharged on Dec. 26,'62 due to disability from being wounded.
Also, my other ancestor that I know of was Pvt. Samuel Freeland who enrolled May 30, 1861 in Harrisburg, PA with the 13th; serving within Company A..his paperwork definately indicates that he was wounded during the Battle of Fredricksburg; and there is also a paper stating something to the effect of "Prisoner of War Memorandum"...he wasn't discharged until Feb. 23rd, 1863, however for an undisclosed amount of time as a P.O.W., I presume.
I don't wish to waste anyone's time, but I am desperately seeking info. about these two men and their regiments stories from the "War of the Rebellion." Any assistance you can provide would be extraordinarily appreciated. Matt Varner, at yorztrooly@hotmail.com

PENNSYLVANIA CAVALRY REGIMENTS
Ancestors
Conlin, James Taylor - I am researching my family history. I have a 1927 newspaper obituary for my great-grandfather from The Daily Republican (Monongahela--Aug. 6, 1927). In the obit, they say that James Taylor Conlin enlisted in the army Dec. 2, 1861, and was mustered into Captain Patrick Kane's Company E 13th Pennsylvania Volunteer Calvary on Feb. 7, 1862. Description of service includes Army of the Potomac in all its Virginia campaigns and active part in the battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Gaines Mill, Malvern Hill and Hatchers Run. He was injured and then returned to service in Raliegh, NC, at the time of General Johnston's surrender. He enlisted as a private but before the term of his enlistment was promoted to sergeant. Discharged Feb. 20, 1865, at Petersburg, VA. He also became a member of Starkweather Post 60 GAR in June 1876. It would seem that with all this detail in his obituary, I would be able to find something about him, the 13th Calvary or even Captain Patrick Kane. Can you help direct me to some likely places to gain more information? Thank you very much! JABAUMAN@prodigy.net
